On the fifth day, God created
all the animals. In the process, he created the dog and said, “Sit at the door
of your master’s house and start barking on unknown people who comes through
this door. For this, I am going to give you a life span of twenty years.” The
dog requested God to reduce the life span to ten years. God accepted the
request.
Next He created monkey and said,
“Your major responsibility is to entertain the people. Do all the monkey tricks
which I kept in you. Make them laugh. For this I am going to give you a life
span of twenty years.” The monkey requested God that he can’t do only monkey
tricks for such a long time. So he requested to cut off ten years from his life
span, which God accepted the request.
Next He created cow and said, “I
am giving a life span of sixty years. Go and help the farmer in his field.
Also, give milk so that it will give him some revenue.” The cow requested God
that she can’t work in the sun for sixty years and requested to cut short the
life span to twenty years. God accepted the request and took forty years back.
Finally God created the man and
said, “Eat, drink, sleep, marry and enjoy your life for twenty years.” But man
requested God to increase the life span to eighty years and also suggested to
add the deducted life spans of dog, monkey and cow. God accepted the request
and increased the life span to eighty years.
So that is why we enjoy first
twenty years of life for ourselves; the next forty years we work extremely hard
like a cow for the family; the next ten years, we do all types of monkey tricks
to entertain the grandchildren; and the last ten years, we sit on the entrance
of the home and bark at everyone.
